Gail Young is a former elementary teacher who has taught in OR, WA and CA.  She has a Master’s Degree in Reading Education.  Her love of reading and writing carried over into her parenting as she was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom to her three children who are all in their 20’s now.  Gail and her husband, James, live in Vancouver after spending 12 years in Camas.

Gail grew up in Oregon and went to OSU, after which she taught for 9 years.  After starting a family, and generally keeping busy with all things kids, a new chapter has emerged and she has been seeking ways to volunteer her time. She also enjoys walking their dog, Birdie, trips to the coast, hosting dinner parties, golfing, trying new restaurants, wine tasting and time spent with friends and family.

Gail loves finding books that inspire her to try a new recipe, enjoy a good laugh or a good cry, gardening, floral design, health and wellness, creativity, art appreciation, relationships, self-care and travel.

Mostly, Gail lives by the motto that it’s a great time to learn something new and that learning is a lifelong journey.

Why the Library:
"The library has always been a place of calm for me...a kind of sanctuary.  It’s where I studied in school, it’s where I could always find the children’s literature I needed while teaching, where I could ask a librarian about anything, where I’d take my kids for story time wherever we lived.  The library is inclusive and it’s all about community.  It’s a gift that has given me many hours of inspiration and delight...for all the time the library has given me, it’s time to give back to it!"
